Foods That Are Easy to Digest on GLP-1 Medications

Feeling sick after meals on Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or Zepbound is common. Here is the protein and vegetables that tend to sit well, and why.

Why some foods sit better than others on GLP-1 medications

GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound slow down how fast your stomach empties. That is part of how they help you feel full. It also means food sits in your stomach longer, which can bring on nausea, bloating, and reflux.

Your stomach is not failing to do its job. It is just moving slower than it used to. Soft, low fat foods pass through faster and cause less trouble than heavy or greasy ones. Getting enough protein still matters, so the goal is finding protein that is easy to digest, not skipping it.

Protein that is easy on your stomach

  • Greek yogurt or cottage cheese. These are soft and creamy. Your stomach does not have to work hard to break them down.
  • Eggs, scrambled or soft boiled. Eggs are soft and gentle. They move through your stomach easily.
  • Tofu. Tofu is soft like pudding. It is simple for your stomach to handle.
  • Poached or baked fish. Fish cooked this way stays soft and light. It has very little fat, so it moves through your stomach faster.
  • Bone broth with a scoop of protein. Broth is a liquid. Liquids are the easiest thing for your stomach to deal with.

Vegetables that are gentle to digest

  • Steamed or roasted zucchini, carrots, or squash. Cooking breaks down the tough fiber ahead of time. That leaves less work for your stomach.
  • Cucumber. It is mostly water and very low in fiber, so it is gentle going down.
  • Well cooked spinach or other leafy greens. Cooking wilts the fiber down small. Raw greens take much longer to break apart.

A simple way to eat

Eat smaller meals more often instead of a few big ones. Chew slowly. Give each meal a little time before adding more food on top. These small habits give your stomach a chance to keep up. See our guide on foods to avoid for what tends to cause the most trouble.
